Butuan –Malacañang has declared August 2, 2010, a Monday, as a special non-working day in the city of Butuan marking the celebration of the 60th Adlaw Hong Butuan, the Charter Day anniversary of Butuan City.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of Butuan be given full opportunity to celebrate the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” according to Presidential Proclamation No. 8 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., by authority of President Benigno Aquino III.Several activities lined up for the weeklong Adlaw Hong Butuan celebration which started on July 25 for the Abayan Festival.
Mastering and preservation of the Butuanon dialect through the “Speak Butuanon Drive:On Air” was launched and an fm radio station-Love Radio- had a trivia contest and singing Bee-nutuanon while a Butuanon interactive segment with a Butuanon DJ from SOLFED was also initiated by dxMK fm to encourage at the same time teach young generation the native dialect.
City Hall employees and the public were able to benefit the free massage therapy, job’s fair and livelihood demonstration spearheaded by the city’s Manpower Training Centre.
Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr on July 30 headed the Linis Estero Project at Montilla Boulevard and a Tree Planting was held at Gawad Kalinga Village in Barangay Pagtpatan.
A Search for Little Miss Butuan was also held at the city hall lobby yesterday with 9 cute
3-4 year olds vied for the title, showed some talents in singing and dancing.
The City Veterinary Office with the coordination of IDO (Ideal Dog Ownership) Ta Kadyawon Ta, offered free dog castration and rabies vaccination to the people of Barangays Ampayon, Libertad and at the Rizal Park in its effort to limit dog population of stray dogs and prevent the spread of rabies wherein more than 200 dogs were castrated and hundreds vaccinated against rabies.
On the day of the 60th Adlaw Hong Butuan, there will be ‘Lagoy Butuan’, a fun run, to be followed by a Thanksgiving Mass at 7 in the morning at St. Joseph Cathedral and floral offering at the tomb of Congressman Marcos M. Calo, who authored a bill converting Butuan into a city.
History says that it was on August 2, 1950 that Butuan
became a city by virtue of Republic Act No. 523 otherwise known as the City Charter of Butuan.
August 2 will be a memorable day for 100 couples who will say “I Do” in the traditional holding of ‘Minyo-ay Ngani Butuan’, a mass civil wedding to be officiated by Mayor Amante,
The convergence of the big event will be at the City Sports Complex for a whole day program showcasing culture and arts, martial arts demonstration, cultural presentations by the Butuan City secondary and tertiary schools, rendering of Harana by former 2nd District Representative Edelmiro Amante together with the Mayor.
