Butuan – A hostage situation on July 9, 2010 at 1:20 in the afternoon in Marcos Calo Street ends with the suspect arrested by police officers of Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) led by Police Supt. Joseph Boquiren without harming the 6-year old victim and the mother.
For conducting immediate and effective police negotiation strategies in said hostage crisis situations, the 12th Sangguniang Panglunsod of Butuan in its regular session held on Monday passed and approved a resolution commending 43 officers of BCPO.Police Supt. Joseph Boquiren who was the Officer in Charge at the time of the incident and his men were highly praised for neutralizing the 16 year old suspect who was armed with a kitchen knife and held hostage in an internet café a 6 year old boy and his mother Rona Radaza.
The suspect demanded 1M for their release. A Crisis Management Committee was activated and negotiations started wherein the suspect agreed to lower his demand to 200,000 pesos.
The hostage taker was arrested peacefully and victims were rescued unharmed at around 3:45 in the afternoon.
Recovered from the possession of the suspect were kitchen knife and the 200,000 pesos demand money.
