Students at Banisil Elementary School in Tambler, General Santos City, sharpen their reading and spelling skills using computer resources provided through USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program. Under its Education Awareness Support Effort (EASE), GEM matched the funds raised by the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA) to upgrade the school’s computer laboratory and library resources. The PTAs of almost 900 schools in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao have implemented education improvement activities in partnership with the GEM Program, establishing mini libraries, computer and science laboratories, multi-media centers and other types of programs or facilities for their students. The GEM Program is implemented under the oversight of the Mindanao Development Authority. GEM
