Students of South 1A Central School in Tubod, Rosario Heights, Iligan City, take a break from designing a PowerPoint presentation in a multimedia lab established in their school through a partnership between USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program and their parent-teacher association (PTA). Under its Education Awareness Support Effort (EASE), the GEM Program matches the funds raised by PTAs to implement specific education improvement projects in schools, such as establishing mini school libraries, science laboratories and multimedia centers. To date, GEM has provided more than 920 matching grants benefiting approximately half a million students across conflict-affected areas in Mindanao, under the oversight of the Mindanao Development Authority.
