To effectively strengthen drug eradication, PDEA Caraga launched the 1st Caraga Drug Prevention and Awareness Week shifting its strategy into giving awareness to the public of the harmful effects of illegal drugs.
PDEA likewise re-launch the TXT PDEA program where people can text using 0939-5657-444 and 0906-4422-242 to report those involved in drug trafficking.
“The family and community’s involvement in the anti-drug campaign is essential in attaining
PDEA’s goal of making Butuan and Caraga Region a drug free area in 2012,” said PDEA Regional Director Atty. Quiriones.
During the week long celebration, in close coordination with the Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Council (RLECC), PDEA Caraga conducted blood letting program in Barangay Ong Yiu, while a medical/dental mission, feeding program and food pack distribution was conducted in Barangay San Ignacio during its kick off ceremony held yesterday.
These two barangays in Butuan was particularly chosen to be the venue since it has been known as a drug den based on the recorded high incidence of drug raids, buy bust operations and drug related crimes.
Showing concern over the proliferation of drug use in Butuan, Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos said they teamed up with PDEA in providing information to help the people in Caraga so that they should not get addicted to drugs.
The Bishop believes that the campaign against drug proliferation will be effective through the family-oriented approach by introducing Family Evangelization Project.
“The 1st Caraga Drug Prevention and Awareness Week make the
locals aware of the consequences and aftermath of drug addiction and I appeal to the barangay officials to take this campaign to their constituents so that they can also benefit from it,” urged PDEA regional Director Joey Quiriones.
On November 12, PDEA Director General Dionisio Santiago will visit Butuan to attend RLECC meeting at PRO 13 conference room and to witness the burning of confiscated marijuana in Agusan del Sur provincial government center in Patin-ay on Friday.
