The lady mayor has been christened as “Cinderella Mayor” owing to her dramatic rise from a mere housewife, to barangay captain, then as town councilor representing the Association of Barangay Councils – until she won as mayor of the Municipality of Bacuag. People credit her victory to her gorgeous personality, ready helping hand and soft heart for the poor.
In an interview, Cebedo said she will never step out from any responsibility and challenge especially if it calls for public service for the people of Surigao Del Norte. She believes that if her time is already ripe and destiny will bring her to a higher office, then, she is more than willing to accept it with the support of her husband Engr. Moki Cebedo, her parents, relatives and supportive constituents from Bacuag.
She is currently considered as the frontrunner in the list of wannabes for the position of vice-governor in next year’s elections and the possible strongest candidate under the LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD merged party and the Partido Padajon Surigao led by the Matugas-Romarate tandem.
The Cinderella mayor disclosed her preference to seek reelection next year as she wanted to continue serving her needy constituents in Bacuag. However, she said she will abide with their party’s decision if they think she can be of great help to them once elected to a higher position. For her, there is no reason she would decline the challenge to serve the people of the province as future vice-governor, once the opportunity comes in, especially with the support of Cong. Francisco Matugas and Cong. Guillermo Romarate.
It was learned that several party bigwigs from Partido Padajon Surigao have been calling and urging the lady mayor to run for vice-governor in view of her increasing popularity, mass appeal, sincere and tested public service and solid bailiwick in Bacuag which they considered as her plus factors over her prospective rivals.
Cebedo belongs to the famous political lineage of the Orquina clan in Bacuag which rules the town for several generations already. She is known for her humility and equal treatment of the rich and the poor alike and likewise credited for reuniting the once-divided Orquina political clan.
Her moniker “Cinderella” was coined by Tony Consing, a print and broadcast journalist, who was impressed with her beauty, grace and good-natured character. She was also unanimously chosen as “Darling of the Press” by the Media Association of Surigao (MASO) in 2007, besting 19 town mayors and a city mayor in the process.
