Surigao City – Placer Mayor Charry Mangacop recently expressed the possibility of joining the unified political faction of Cong. Francisco Matugas and Cong. Guillermo Romarate, which is the LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD, following recent developments from the party’s national leadership in Metro Manila. He is originally a member of the LAKAS-CMD party, it was learned.
In an exclusive interview by this writer for his radio program “Timbangan sa Lungsod” aired over DxSN, Mangacop said he would remain as a loyal party member of the LAKAS-CMD vis-à-vis the forthcoming elections and that he has a direct contact with Defense Secretary Gilbert Tedoro, DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno and Health Secretary Francisco Duque. He started his affiliation with the party in 2007 when he ran and won as Mayor of the town of Placer, Surigao Del Norte.
Mangacop disclosed that on Sept. 17, 2009 he was with Cong. Francisco Matugas in paying a courtesy call on DILG Sec. Ronaldo Puno, the current chairman of the LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD merged party. Puno told him of the unified party’s enforced policy to require all party members to give full support to all administration candidates from the national level down to the congressional, provincial, city and municipal levels in relation to next year’s elections. He was told also to vote straight and without dropping any candidates, it was gathered.
The town chief executive declared he would abide with the said policy and would take a firm stand on it as he expressed his happiness that his personal choice for the presidency and vice-presidency, Defense Sec. Gilbert Teodoro and DILG Sec. Ronaldo Puno, recently turned out to become the standard bearer and the running mate, respectively, of the administration unified party. He vowed to support all administration candidates for the national positions of president, vice-president and senators – as well as local administration candidates for the positions of congressmen, governor, vice-governor, etc.
Mangacop stressed that anyone among his comrades in 2007 who fails to become administration candidates for the 2010 elections will never get his support. He reiterated to support only administration candidates of the LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD merged party.
The first-term mayor expressed his desire to enjoy the party privilege of “equity of the incumbent” together with Vice-Mayor Philip Adlao and the Sangguniang Bayan members of Placer with the belief that their inevitable union will spell for them a peaceful, orderly and ensured reelection.
He intimated that before the filing of the certificates of candidacy, he hopes to become a member of the LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD unified party and will join administration candidates Cong. Francisco Matugas and Cong. Guillermo Romarate in the process.
