Butuan – Police Chief Superintendent Pedro Tango have expressed alarm over the reported increase of the monthly crime rate in Davao City based on the average monthly crime rate data.
The crime statistics comparison data released by Police Regional Office 11 from June to July in the current year revealed a 44.92 percent crime rate in Davao City indicating an increase of crime against person and crime against property contrary to what has been expected with the implementation of police visibility in crime prone areas.
In June 2009, crime against person posted 157 incidents for the month of July 2009 compared to only 133 last month.
Crime against property likewise showed an increasing trend posted at 195 in July compared to 142 in June of this year that includes robbery from 35 in June to 58 in July.
Carnapping incidents increased t0 4 from last month’s 3 while cases of theft arrived at 58 in number compared to only 35 in June.
With the growing number of criminality in Davao over a month’s time, PCS Tango directed the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division to review the crime status in the city and curb out crimes now that the city will be celebrating the Kadayawan Festival with local and foreign tourists joining.
The increasing trend he said, creates a bad impression especially to the business sector.
