July 24, 2009 – A suspension of military offensives (SOMO) against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) was ordered by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo yesterday afternoon. This was pronounced by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita during a press conference in Manila around 420pm.“The government forces shall suspend operations in conflict affected areas and revert back to active defense mode,” Executive Secretary Ermita pronounced, adding it is a bid to restart the stalled peace talks with the MILF.
