Tubod, Lanao Del Norte (22 July) — In support of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s thrust to mitigate hunger, the provincial government of Lanao del Norte, through the initiative of Governor Mohamad Khalid Q. Dimaporo, embarked on a mass-feeding program during the recently concluded People’s Day held at the Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) Gymnasium which benefited 2,500 residents.

It is the outlook of the government to ensure the well-being of its constituency. Hence, programs for hunger mitigation are implemented. The global economic crisis experienced by everyone especially the poor is one factor why nutritious food cannot be obtained added to that is the soaring prices of basic commodities.

Governor Dimaporo is more than willing to adapt feeding programs from the National Government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

“The people of Lanao del Norte is my concern. Kung nagugutom sila dahil walang pera or dahil walang trabaho, may programs kami para sa social development and rural livelihood. I will champion the cause of the poor (The people of Lanao del Norte is my concern. If they are hungry because they do not have money or no jobs, we have programs for social development and rural livelihood. I will champion the cause of the poor),” Dimaporo quipped.

Residents flocked towards the venue as staff from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) headed by Annabel Mendez served hot arroz caldo. (Breezy C. Jimenez)
