Dipolog City (22 July) — Fifty fishermen of Roxas town in Zamboanga del Norte have recently received fishing nets locally called as “pokot” from the regional office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in region 9.
The fishing nets were turned over to Gov. Rolando E. Yebes at the Zamboanga del Norte Convention and Exhibition Center (ZNCEC) in this city through BFAR-9 director Virgilio Alforque’s legal counsel, Atty. Erlinda Poi.
The fishing nets were then distributed to the fishermen from the coastal barangays of Dohinob, Nabilid, Irasan and Langatian.
The officers and members of the Dohinob-Nabilid and Irasan-Langatian fisherfolk associations have expressed their gratitude to BFAR for giving them the fishing gear to help them get good catch.
In a related development, local fisheries officials are urging the local government units to strictly ban the use beach seine fishing gear to allow the juvenile fish to grow to desired sizes. (PF/PIA-ZN)
