Butuan (July 9, 2009) – Members of the media taking a good shot with the Master Builder from the Island of Sibutu in Tawi-Tawi during the Salinlahi: The Heirloom of our Generation successfully presented the completed Balangay, which is similar to the boats built and used hundreds of years ago, where archeologists dug up a relic carbon dated to 320AD in Ambangan, Butuan . The historic unveiling of the ancient boat was done on June 27 at the CCP grounds attended by foreign and local journalists. The Balangay named Diwata ng Lahi will travel around the Philippines and neighboring Asian countries before setting out to sail further into the Pacific. The Balangay Team led by Art Valdez will set sail to every major port in the Philippines and organize coastal clean-up, tree planting, lectures on Philippine maritime history and mini fiestas.
