Butuan – Davao Medical Center (DMC) have confirmed the 6th A(H1N1) positive in Eastern Mindanao.
DMC Chief Dr. Leopoldo Vega revealed, a 25 year old male from Surigao City here in Caraga is the new patient added to A(H1N1) lists, although it was not made known how the patient contacted the disease but information gathered he was on voluntary home quarantine.
The first case of A(H1N1) is a 4 year old male child from Butuan and his 9 year old playmate, followed by 2 cases from Davao City, another one from Kidapawan and now from Surigao City.
DMC has on its isolation room two-1 year old patients who were suspected of having A(H1N1) influenza virus.
“We could not still discharge these patients because we are waiting for the laboratory results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicines (RITM) in Manila,” said Dr. Vega.
DMC is working to have its own laboratory capabilities for them to do confirmatory tests for the A(H1N1) virus to obtain speedy results of the swab tests conducted to patients who showed manifestations of the disease.
Despite Dr. Vega’s apprehensions whether DMS has enough funding requirements to have its own laboratory tests for A(H1N1), actions has to be taken because of the bulk RITM is receiving and the necessity to immediately confirm swab tests.
