BUTUAN CITY- Private elementary school Rainbow of Angels Learning School located at the heart of this city has suspended its classes since Thursday after the Department of Health confirmed a nine year old female student of said school has been found positive of A(H1N1) virus.
According to the Center for Health and Development-DOH regional office here the new case was the second in the region and the 15th so far in total number of Cases Under Observation (COU)
Rainbow of Angel school official Mila Quita confirmed the school suspended its classes after health officials have ordered conduct of anti-flu preventive measures and cleaning of the school premises.
Quita told this writer in a phone interview they will resume classes on July 1.
The DOH said of the fifteen suspected cases, ten were negative, two positive for influenza A(H1N1) virus and three have pending laboratory results.
But the DOH regional office got a tongue lashing from different sectors of society here after it allegedly publicly reported late of the new case.
They lambasted DOH for keeping the information not updated and silent saying the health agency wanted to project nothing to worry when everybody has been worried what to do to keep their children away from the virus.
Earlier, DOH Caraga Regional Director Leonila Gorgolon claimed they don’t want the public to panic and said they are on the top of the situation.
