BUTUAN CITY- Water, they say is life, and one could not imagined what will be life without water.
Recently, the United States’ National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) attempted to bring potable water supply to the moon aboard spaceships in order for humans to survive in any plans to make that lunar livable.
The exorbitant cost (by millions of dollars) of bringing alone the precious commodity to the moon prompted NASA to put on hold the project yet here in Butuan City, some greedy, mindless individuals attempted or have already started to destroy the only source of potable water supply of more than 300,0000 Butuan City residents, the 4,300 hectares government declared Butuan City Watershed area.
What is ironic is that, aside from silence of more than 300,000 Butuan City residents particularly self-proclaim moral, religious and other cause –oriented groups, the culprits behind the attempt or have already destroyed the source of this precious commodity, are still unidentified and go scot-free.
Adding insult to injury is that it seems the people of Butuan City tend to forget the incident and never mind or forget the people who trampled environment and destroyed their source to maintain life sight smack of beautiful and talented Butuanons..
While it is maybe factually correct that in the beginning there was no Philippines but there was Butuan, as what Butuan historians have always repeatedly trumpeting ergo civilaizations started here earlier than other parts of the country (although the National Historical Institute has to finally and officially agree with it), it seems our actuations and responses do not civilly reflect to the battle cry Butuanons wanted to project.
We are not accusing anybody neither made pre-judgments on the watershed controversy, any intelligent and reasonable with right thinking human beings might say, “Go and must identify the culprits and locked them behind jails or simply putting it “somebody has to answer or take responsibility to these environmental animosities”.
As people or any right minded civilization, we are judged by history not by how early we are civilized neither how many times we barter trade with the Chinese, Arabs and Indians (who are now dominating the 5/6 lending trade all over the country) neither how many ancient boats we have sailed centuries ago but by right thinking, right decisions, and right paths we take no matter what.
If we alone cannot defend the source of maintaining life then what do you think in stored for us in the future?
