Butuan – There is indeed a problem with the GSIS computer system as officials admitted in a statement released to members explaining that the data base systems could not cope with the large volume of transactions being processed by them.
It was announced in detail how the software installed by computer giant International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) which forms a large part of the GSIS system has not worked as well.
This is the primary reason the GSIS has been having difficulties processing the claims and benefits of members, pensioners and other beneficiaries.
Accordingly IBM’s software is also the cause of the constant glitches in the posting of members’ payments to the GSIS.
In the morning of June 26 at Dottie’s Place in JC Aquino Avenue here in Butuan City, GSIS Caraga Regional Office and officials from the Central Office will hold a dialogue with GSIS Member agency to shed light on the issue.
GSIS Regional Manager Mamole Pangandaman said, “Shifting from the upgraded computerized system a few years back resulted to defects that have delayed the processing of transactions of thousands of GSIS members nationwide and conducting a dialogue is an avenue to inform members of the GSIS status.”
Over a billion of pesos were allocated by GSIS to adopt new software from the IBM comprising trainings and technical support.
GSIS now wants the following from IBM: First, fix the problem caused by the “defective” IBM software; Next, replace the same if it is beyond fixing; Then, refund what GSIS paid for the “defective” IBM software if the company has no suitable replacement; And, finally, for IBM to pay damages to the GSIS members and pensioners, as well as to the GSIS as an institution, for the problems in claims disbursement traced to the “defective” software.
But proving that indeed IBM’s software is defective is another matter as IT experts insists there are no glitches in their software that have surfaced anywhere else but in GSIS.
