Butuan – Under the socio-economic package of the Social Integration Program (SIP) under the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) recently turned-over more than 2.1 million worth of cash and livelihood assistance to rebel returnees now called Former Rebels (FR’s) in a ceremony held in Patin-ay Agusan del Sur during the 42nd Araw ng Agusan.
30 individuals received 50,000 worth of livelihood assistance in capital goods, while another 20 was awarded with 20,000 cash as immediate assistance.
22 FR’s who surrendered their firearms were also given compensation amounting to 218,700 totalling more than 2.1 million pesos.
Meanwhile, other socio economic package were also awarded consisting the following: 34 heads carabaos, 3 units brand new motorcycles, a mud boat, sprayer, 2 plows, basic commodities for a sari-sari store and 1.5 hectare agricultural land.
To ensure sustainability of managing the livelihood projects, FR’s underwent on previous days trainings and lectures.
In line with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s peace and development efforts, the beneficiaries who have returned into the folds of the law, it is hoped that what they have learned will be put into practice as part of their reintegration into society.
With the promulgation of Administrative Order No. 172 signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on March 23, 2007, the National Committee on Social Integration was created to implement the Social Integration Program with the objective that Former Rebels otherwise known as Kauban sa Reporma (KR’s) can have a genuine and sustainable socio economic intervention.
