Brief fierce gun battles flared between freedom fighters of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces – Moro Islamic Liberation Front (BIAF) and troops of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) in four villages in Maguindanao towns in the past two days.
Firefight erupted around 1150pm last June 16, 2009 following guerilla assault by MILF fighters to the positions being held by the troops of the 54th Infantry Battalion (IB), Philippine Army, at Barangay Nabalawag, Datu Saudi Ampatuan and Barangay Nabundas, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao. According to MILF field report, two AFP soldiers were wounded during these encounters.
