
Butuan – Philippines is celebrating the 111th Anniversary of Philippine Independence today with a national theme: “Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan: Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan” and Butuan City began the activity with an early motorcade from City Sports Complex to Rizal Park with DOLE-Caraga as the lead agency.
The program at the Rizal Park was attended by different sectors in the society and highlighted by wreath-laying and a flag raising ceremony with Caraga CORD and Tourism Secretary Ace Durano as the guest speaker, who is also a steward for the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (Cleep).
The Secretary proudly announced that Butuan City and Caraga is one of the latest additions of the several regions in the country that has been considered as a priority under the Department of Tourism for tourism development.
Filipinos are being reminded of the importance of unity and to continue hoping that there would be a better future just like the forefathers have envisioned.
“People are not fighting colonial powers; we continue to be challenged by such,” Secretary Durano added.
Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II was represented by Vice Mayor Dino Claudio Sanchez who said in his message that, “The Philippines has since been considered a great nation with remarkable people. In part, because of our past history, we can’t ignore the fact that the Philippines continues to confront many difficult challenges including persistent poverty, natural disasters, and political division, but as a nation rich in natural and human resources with a proud legacy as the first democracy in Asia our country still has hopes for the future.”
To signify unity, government line agencies released white balloons before proceeding to the Almont Inland Resort to launch another event which is the Kalayaan Mega Job and
Livelihood Fair 2009, participated in by 31 local and overseas companies.
DOLE Regional Director Chona Mantilla revealed, as of the April 2009, there are a total of 20,360 jobs generated, individuals employed reached 14,181 and DOLE-Caraga released more than 2 billion funding assistance.
The Mega Job Fair which will run until June 14 offered 11,554 available jobs to jobseekers with 248 vacancies in different government offices, 742 from private companies and a much more better opportunities for overseas jobs.
Funding assistance were also awarded to different sectors for livelihood projects, tourism infrastructure projects, technical assistance and thousands of employment contracts from different line agencies.
