BUTUAN CITY - Sixteen makeshift wooden huts which were allegedly made as a huge stop over camp by suspected New People’s Army rebels near boundary of Sito Kasiklan of Las Nieves town in Agusan del Norte and Barangay Tungao, Butuan City were overrun by patrolling members of the 30t IB Philippine Army last night.
Sketchy police and military reports claimed undetermined number of communist rebels wounded in the 30 minutes gun battle which reportedly resulted for some suspected 40 to 50 NPA rebels to withdraw leaving important subversive documents and personal belongings behind.
Barangay Tungao Police Station 5 commander P/Insp. Reinerio Salcedo confirmed the skirmishes and wounded NPA rebels could not determined the number of wounded rebels or government troopers.
The military claimed no reported casualties on government troopers’ side.
No words yet from the New People’s Army’s side on the latest encounter. The communist rebels’ leadership has been denying military reports on number of wounded and casualties claiming government troopers are exaggerating their reports.
Last June 8, New People’s Army member was killed in the latest encounter between government troopers and communist rebels in hinterland Sitio Kibantang, Barangay Sta. Cruz, Rosario, Agusan del Sur, Caraga Police Information Office in their report said.
Police said a team from Bravo Company of the 36th IB Philippine Army headed by 2Lt. Ryan Perez accidentally encountered a group of suspected NPA rebels which resulted to the confiscation of an M14 rifle bearing serial number1374567 at the place of encounter.
The police report claimed no reported casualty in the government side.
Reportedly government troopers were conducting hot pursuit operations against the withdrawing rebels.
The Philippine Government is waging decades old insurgency woes against Maoist-inspired insurgency movement mostly caused poverty and other social problems.
But most Filipinos nowadays allegedly described it as a “money-making insurgency conflict” out to make money to both sides due force revolutionary taxes from illegal loggers, multi-national firms, construction companies and other businesses including mining companies and waste of government funds that allegedly go to pockets of corrupt military officials and personnel.
Allegedly funds worth of millions of pesos collected from force taxation and extortion by NPA rebels go to pockets of influential individuals while government intelligence funds worth millions were unaccounted for making the insurgency problem an alibi.
The Philippine insurgency woes have been allegedly made as milking cow for military promotion and personal aggrandizement to some.
