In July 2001, the Abu Sayyaf Group boldly occupied the town of Lamitan in Basilan province with their foreign victims who were kidnapped in Palawan. Last September, workers of Nagdilaab Foundation, Director Espi Hupida and freelance humanitarian worker Melit Mendoza were snatched by the same group at Tipo-Tipo Basilan.
