Tom Crehan, Chief of the Office of Education of USAID-Philippines, paints a desk at the Tetuan Central School in Zamboanga City to prepare the school for the opening of classes during the Department of Education’s weeklong Brigada Eskewela. In the same week, Crehan and other USAID staff similarly assisted eight other elementary schools in Western and Central Mindanao and provided them with more than 5,000 English, science and math books and other education materials. Earlier, USAID, through its Education Quality and Access for Learning and Livelihood Skills (EQuALLS2) Project, provided P3.7 million worth of construction and repair materials to 741 public elementary schools and communities in regions 9, 12 and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao for Brigada Eskwela.
