City of Mati, Davao Oriental – Stressing the necessity of a balanced ecology, and concern from all stakeholders, Dvo Or Prov’l Environment and Natural Resources Office strengthen it’s education information campaign on global warming.
Speaking before the delegates of the recently concluded 1st Sangguniang Kabataan Provincial Congress held at the Grand Men Seng Hotel, PENRO Officer Greg Lagura explained that the destruction of ozone layer causes global warming.
He then delineated the different ill-effects of global warming to men and his environment.
“We are now experiencing extremities. We are experiencing extreme warmth or extreme coldness. That is why we have El Niño and La Niña,” he explained.
He added that generally, warm days are prevalent than cold days, because our temperature is also perking up.
One ill-effect of global warming is the ruin of the coral reefs, the decrease in agricultural production, as every centigrade increase of temperature also means a decrease in production.
“The diseases or illnesses that affect us now are also brought by global warming, and usually affected to this are those with respiratory and cardiovascular disorders, aside from water contamination,” he furthered.
Also, Lagura disclosed that because of global warming, forest and wildlife are affected, since their environment is affected, dwellers now seek other habitats for their safety.
Such, would result to ecological imbalance.
He assured the members of the SK-Dvo Or Federation though, that the government is doing everything to counter the said ill-effects, one of which is the creation of an inter-agency task force on climate change.
Each member agency is designated with tasks on how to fight global warming.
“As youth leaders, you also have the responsibility to spread these informations and lead in its compliance. You must lead in the concern for ecology. It now time for us to stand on this cause. The department needs all the help in can get to pursue this fight for the environment,” Lagura stressed.
And to really have a grasp of the aftermath of a damaged environment, Lagura prepared a film showing revealing the terrible scenarios evident now and will still be happening if actions are not taken and implemented expeditiously to preserve and protect Mother Earth.
The 1st SK Provincial Congress of Davao Oriental was attended by the different chairpersons from the 183 barangays of the province of Davao Oriental.
